Protect the Skin your In

Having a little fun in the sun may not always be a good thing if you're not taking the extra steps to protect your skin. Many young women today are unaware of the sun's harmful rays when stepping outdoors. We might not feel or see the affects now, but will eventually see a difference in the long run as we age. Well renowned dermatologist Naila Malik says that "90% of aging is due to sun exposure" The sun's powerful ultraviolet light (UV Rays) can damage the fibers in our skin called elastin. Overtime, the fibers begin to break down making skin lose its elasticity and thus creating sagging and bruising.

REMEMBER: Take the time to apply some sort of sunscreen in the morning before you start your day and to reapply after every 2 hours. There are many products out there that can accommodate to your specific skin type whether its dry, normal, or oily. A light moisturizer with SPF 15 is perfect for everyday use and great to use as a base under your powder foundation. Try Oil of Olay's Complete face moisturizer with SPF 15. Its 100% oil and PABA free and even contains Vitamin E Antioxidants with aloe. This moisturizer won't clog your pores and won't leave you with that sticky icky feeling like normal sunscreen. Another great body moisturizer with SPF 15 is Vaseline's Aloe Fresh Protecting body lotion. It's only about $5.00 at your nearest drug store and has an amazing light and fresh scent.

ANTIOXIDANTS- Moisturizers that contain antioxidants are a plus when it comes to your skin. It helps fight off free radicals that form from sun exposure and outside environmental factors by slowing the cell oxidation process. Antioxidants like vitamin E and vitamin C are some of the ingredients that many facial and body moisturizers contain in addition to SPF. Try finding products that include a combination of both to get double the protection. Foods and drinks that are rich in antioxidants such as green tea and grapefruits are also powerful tools in fighting free radicals.

HYDRATE- Keeping hydrated is also essential if you want nourished looking skin. A daily intake of 6-8 glasses of water will keep your skin happy, giving you the glowing skin that you deserve!

Of course there are about a hundred of different products and techniques out there to use on your skin, but with a little bit of research and some help from the beauty counters, you'll be able to find the right product that you'll love and use constantly!

Prime Eyes

The key to applying a great eye shadow is a great base. Whether your going for a smoky eyed or a simple natural toned look, you'll need a primer to keep eye makeup from smudging and creasing. With Urban Decay's Eyeshadow primer potion ($18 at Macys and Sephora), you will be able to get the results that you want. It not only glides on smoothly to your eyelids but instantly blends colorless, creating that perfect base to start your eye makeup application.

It is a great product that I constantly use almost everyday. Especially when living under hot and humid conditions, eye makeup can easily melt right off of your face if you don't have a primer on. Even if I'm just applying something as easy as eyeliner, I always make sure to first prep with Urban Decay's primer. I can immediately tell the difference with its all day smudge-free staying power. The best part about this product is that I can also dab a little onto the area of my bottom lash line, where my eyeliner tends to normally smudge. Trust me on this one when I say that it is a great summer product. Once you've got Urban Decay's primer, your eyes will be set all day everyday!

Staying POWER.

Nobody likes a black eye, especially if it's coming from your very own eyeliner. For eyeliner that truly lasts, try MAC Fluidline eyeliner which comes in a gel based formula. This eyeliner is a necessity when it comes to those crazy club nights filled with a whole lot of dancing, drinking, and perspiring. It easily glides on to your lids with the help of an eyeliner brush, creating the perfect natural or dramatic look that you're going for. A little goes a long way with this product as well. Dab only a little at a time into the gel with your eyeliner brush and start from your inner lash line going outwards. Remember to stay as close to your lash line as possible, using little strokes if your new to the whole gel eyeliner thing. As you become more comfortable with the application, you'll be able to do a lot more with your eyes. Another helpful tip is to sweep a bit of your foundation onto your eyelids to create a more even base before you apply MAC's fluidline eyeliner.

(Remember to use eye make-up remover when wiping off your eye make-up as well. Using regular soap and water is damaging to your delicate eye area where the skin tends to be a lot thinner than the rest of your face)

Don't Sweat It

The Summer sun is here and ready to shine its light on everyone! When summer hits, so does its heat and humidity. So set aside those heavy cream foundations for this sunny season because it is all about minerals! Mineral powders that are so light weight and breathable that you can barely tell that it's on your face. Heavy and creamy foundations can easily clog your pores, especially under the summer sun when you are more prone to sweating. Today, many mineral based powders eliminate irritants such as preservatives, dyes, and fragrances which can sometimes cause breakouts on your skin.

My top favorites include Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil ($19 at Sephora) which I have been personally using for the past 4 years. If you've already got great clear skin, then skip the foundation and go straight to Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil. It provides the lightest coverage, but still has enough power to brighten your face and create that perfect finishing touch. Whats even greater is that they now have Bare Escentuals mineral powder SPF 30 which is a must for protecting your skin from the sun's harmful rays. It now comes in a portable brush so you can easily apply it wherever and whenever. With that being said, go ahead and grab your own set of Mineral make-up this season. Try Maybelline's mineral line if your on a budget or Bare Escentuals starter kit starting at $60. Whatever you choose, your beautiful radiant skin will thank you!

Quick..before its too Late!

The eyelash curler- One of the most essential tools in any woman's make up bag. It easily dominates over the other cosmetic tools that you may have and can instantly brighten your eyes in a hot second or two. The one eyelash curler that never fails- Shu Uemura's award winning eyelash curler.. $19 at Sephora. If you are thinking that 20 bucks is a bit too much for a small little tool, then think again! Shu Uemura is worth the splurge! We say so and your eyelashes say so. I have personally been using this eyelash curler for the past 5 or 6 years and it has never let me down once. I cannot even imagine using another brand. It is as if this tool has been designed perfectly to fit comfortably between a woman's eye lashes , making them curl sky high for any occasion.

BUT QUICK!!!! Unfortunately, time is running out on such a wonderful tool. Stores like Sephora in Hawai'i will no longer be carrying Shu Uemura's merchandise. So ladies, if you want the perfect curl I'd suggest you stock up now, because you know I will be!
